2020/21 Island Championship – Recap

We began the 2020/21 Island Championship earlier this month with the top 24 players from IFPA sanctioned events that took place on Vancouver Island in 2020 and 2021. The Top 16 met yesterday at Powerhouse Pinball for the Grand Finals to determine who took home “the belt”.

It was a long day of 4 rounds of head-to-head best of 7 matchups to crown a champion and crown a champion we did. Our inaugural “Battle for the Belt” took place in 2019 which saw Fuji defeat Karrie in 6 games, the last of which was on Iron Maiden. It was almost deja-vu all over again as Fuji and Karrie met in the finals once again, it went 6 games with the final game being Iron Maiden, however this year Karrie bested Fuji to claim top prize!

The top 4 players for the championship were:

  1. Karrie
  2. Fuji
  3. Steve W
  4. Brent

Full results of the tournament bracket can be found here. Congratulations Karrie for taking home the belt this year and congratulations to all the competitors who brought their best to this tournament!

Vancouver Island Pinball Championship (2020/21) is on!

After more than 2 years of waiting, we are so excited to announce that the Vancouver Island Pinball Championship “Battle for the Belt” is back! The top 24 players based on the results from our 2020/21 events are qualified for the tournament with the top 8 receiving a bye into the second round.

Round 1 pairings have been set and those matches will take place at any time at Quazar’s Arcade before we meet at Powerhouse Pinball Club for the Grand Finals on Sunday, May 1st. Each round will be a head-to-head matchup playing best of 7 games to determine the winner. Best of luck to all participants in their quest for the belt!

Winter/Spring 2022 Leagues and Tournaments

VPL is back on the heels of the easing of BC Provincial Health Order and we are immediately resuming the leagues and tournaments we had planned to start in January. Please note that due to the amended Provincial Health Order published on Feb 17th, that as an “indoor organized event” VPL will be checking for a valid vaccine passport for events hosted at Powerhouse.

Check out our Leagues & Tournaments page for more details or come on down to one of the venues that we meet at to join in the action. It should be noted that our league format is changing this season due to recent adjustments made by the IFPA (our sanctioning body) around what constitutes a “league”. After our initial 3 session season at Peacock’s and our 2 session season at Powerhouse which have been grandfathered in, moving forward we will be required to run no less than 6 sessions to constitute a proper season.

As such Peacock’s will move to a 6 session season starting April 4th and Powerhouse will move to weekly tournaments rotating through various tournament styles.

Early 2022 Events on Hold

It is never fun to write these posts, but we have had to pause league activities until further notice due to the Provincial Health Orders in BC that have been extended indefinitely. Please keep your eyes on your email as we will notifying the Peacock’s and Powerhouse email lists as soon as we have a start date.

We still plan to host our Vancouver Island 2020/21 Championship – Battle for the Belt as soon as we are able to safely and responsibly meet. Final standings can be found at the top of the Results page and this year’s championships will see the Top 24 players square off to determine who is Vancouver Island’s best. If you are in the Top 24 and have yet to confirm your participation with Dan, please send him an email!

All of the locations are still open for drop in play so please stay safe and keep on hitting those flippers at Peacock’s, Quazars, Powerhouse and Powerhouse Substation aka the current home of Godzilla!

Fall 2021 – Mid Season Report

We are just over half way through the Fall 2021 schedule with 3 League seasons and 3 Tournaments in the books. There is still another season at both Peacock Billards and Powerhouse Pinball Club with tournaments planned into December so it is never too late to join us for some games!

The Vancouver Island standings are bunching up in a few spots so it will be an exciting finish to determine the final rankings at the end of December. The top 24 ranked players on the island will qualify for the 2020-21 Vancouver Island Championships that will be held in January 2022.

Keep an eye on our Event Calendar to find out where we will be or reach us at victoriapinball@gmail.com
